What counts towards my Monthly Active Contact (MAC) limit?

A Contact is a person with an email address in Flywheel. Anonymous site visitors do not count as a Contact in Flywheel, they're referred to as "Anonymous contacts'.


Flywheel doesn't charge based on the total number of Contacts in your instance. Instead, we track the number of Monthly Active Contacts. A Monthly Active Contact is defined as a known Contact who has triggered an event within the last 30 days in your product, website, emails, or other channels integrated with Flywheel. This is slightly different than an Active User, which is often only considered active within your product.


Passive events (such as a user receiving an email, getting a push notification, or opening an email) do not count towards the Active Contact number.

How can I estimate my Monthly Active Contacts?

The best way is to sign up and start using Flywheel until you hit the Free plan limit. However, a rough estimate is 10-15% more than your internal Monthly Active User count.

What happens when I hit my Monthly Active Contact limit?

Once you hit your MAC limit, you will have 14 days to upgrade to a paid plan before your instance is locked.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

You can cancel your plan whenever you’d like if you are on a monthly plan. You’ll then be downgraded to the free plan and Flywheel will only track your first 1,000 monthly active contacts.

Do you have annual plans?

If your company prefers annual contracts, you can get in touch to find a custom package.

How long do you retain data?

Flywheel retains Free plan data for 1 year and 7 years for all of our paid plans.
