Spotify, a B2C company, has a large number of mobile users. The result is less real estate for modals and announcements. To overcome this limitation, their announcements take up the majority of the screen and leverage a dark backdrop.

The CTA button is large, the font size is large, and the modal is large. At Flywheel we believe Spotify uses this approach knowing they only have 1-2 seconds before a user dismisses the modal. Spotify users don't open the app to look at modals — they open the app to listen to music. Using such an obtrusive modal is risky, but pays off from their usage of large elements.

The most unique part of this modal is that the CTA actually functions to dismiss the modal. Usually, a CTA takes users to a new part of the app or to a different webpage. Spotify knows they're annoying their users, but doesn't force them to find the small dismissal X. Great move on their part.

Overall, the Spotify feature announcement modal works very well. It's a risky modal that is almost guaranteed to be in the way of their uses, but with so little space to advertise improvements it becomes necessary. If your announcements are going to be annoying, help users close out as quickly as possible.
